Content is King

King Content

In a space where content is king … what type of King are you?

The space in question is content creation.

The king in question is content, since content determines who lives and who dies in the space of content creation.

But what type of King are you?

Are you a totalitarian King, in which your content is exclusively your own, and you refuse to collaborate with other curators and creators?

Are you a narcissistic King, in which your content must be praised and admired by thousands or millions of followers?

Are you an opportunistic King, in which you exploit all mediums of content creation and pump out as much content as you can, regardless of quality or consideration of the targeted audience?

Are you a laissez-faire King, in which you provide content to your audience every now and again, without fully engaging your community?

OR …

Are you a benevolent King?

Do you collaborate with other Kings, or Princes, or Servants, to provide extraordinary content and cross-promotion opportunities?

Do you show gratitude to your audience, and credit your success to their fellowship and inspiration?

Do you respect your audience’s time and interests, and treat your followers as people who crave growth, as opposed to clothes that can be purchased, traded, and returned on a whim?

Do you actively engage your audience, create community, and build fruitful relationships with your readers?

Be the benevolent King. Collaborate. Show gratitude. Respect others. Engage your community. You’ll realize more win-win scenarios as you support your network, build your network, and treat your network as your net worth (because it is!).

And as an added bonus – if you’re not in the content creation space, the above methodology applies to whatever vocation or avocation you pursue. Whether you’re a salesman, a manager, or a custodian, I assure you that you are better off being collaborative, humble, respectful, and engaging, as opposed to totalitarian, narcissistic, opportunistic, and disengaged.

Take time to understand what type of King you are. Maybe you’re a totalitarian-narcissistic hybrid. Maybe you’re four-fifths benevolent, and one-fifth laissez-faire. As a dynamic person, I’m sure you possess characteristics, in different contexts, that span across the different King affiliations. What’s most important is that you take time to reflect on your traits, how you treat others, and what adjustments you plan to make as a byproduct of your self-reflection.

Life is about progress, not perfection. Keep striving to be the type of King you know you can be. And remember one key insight – part of being a benevolent King is being a benevolent Servant.

Serve your audience.

Serve your employees.

Serve your employer.

Serve others.

Use your gifts and talents to serve your world, and your kingdom will come alive!
