Many of us have heard that our WHYs will take care of our HOWs. And that’s absolutely true – when we have a vision, a mission, a purpose … whatever word you use interchangeably with your WHY … we can more easily align and execute the HOWs required to realize our WHYs. Without a WHY, we have no guideline … no roadmap … no blueprint that organizes and structures our HOWs.
In the same light, we cannot reach our destination or construct the mansion we envision by ignoring the importance of our HOWs. Think of the WHY as a strategy, and the HOWs as the pawns and tactics required to execute the strategy. The HOWs are just as significant as the WHY, and both pieces rely on one another for synergistic results.
If you get too bogged down in the HOWs, and forget to look up and realign with your WHY every now and again, you may as well throw your roadmap away and trade in your car for a bicycle. You must understand when you need to be the Restaurant Manager, overseeing your whole dining establishment, and when you need to be the Chef, diligently and carefully preparing the meals that help drive the success of your restaurant.
Trust in your WHY, and evaluate upcoming actions and opportunities as the HOWs that facilitate your WHY. It all originates from the WHY, pours out into your HOWs, and then recollects back into the overall landscape, journey, and formation of your life.
Be the leader of your WHY, and an active ambassador for your HOWs. Go out, act, and conquer! And make sure to realign your HOWs with your WHY along the way.
